Winemaker Alain Brumont
Gascony, lying between the Atlantic Ocean and the Pyrenees Mountains, is home to vineyards with real character, just like the men who cultivate them. Alain Brumont is a leading producer in this region and of Madiran wines, the proprietor of Château Bouscassé and Château Montus, Didier Barre of Domaine Berthoumieu and the Laplace family at Chateau Aydie. He was a pioneer in Madiran and Côtes de Gascogne wines, bringing them up to rank with some of the world’s best wines. The Brumont wines now benefit from not only international recognition, but also remain at a very good value. Brumont has an amazing French success story. He took over the family wine estate, Château Bouscassé, in 1979 then purchased Château Montus to create the wine of his dreams. In 1990, he discovered the ideal stretch of land that would become a world-renowned icon: La Tyre.Brumont had constructed his first underground cellars at Bouscassé in 1988 and the new Château Montus cellars in 1995. By 2003 the chateau had been renovated to include space for seminars and special events.
